Edward Black & Associates, Ltd. designed a handicapped accessible, one-mile system of boardwalks for this exceptional value wetland. Features along the boardwalk include seating made of recycled materials, spotting scopes, bird blinds, draw bridges, and interpretive signage.
Our firm designed a plaza, which acts as the trailhead for the Towpath Trail (the original path paralleling the old Pennsylvania Canal) and features restroom/ informational kiosk building complete with radiant floor heat, pay phone and drinking fountain. A naturalized landscape plan, lighting, and site signage as well as the engineering for a deceleration lane, reconstruction of the dam breast road and walking path and full time construction observation services.
A Merit Design and The Peoples Choice awards were presented to H. Edward Black and Associates, Ltd. by the Pennsylvania/Delaware Chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects.  The Sanctuary was the recipient of the Centennial Medallion Award presented by ASLA.
